Sauvignon Blanc

Although probably originating in Bordeaux, Sauvignon Blanc's traditional benchmarks were the pure, minerally wines of Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé from the Loire Valley in central France.  More recently New Zealand, especially the Marlborough region on the South Island, has had enormous success with styles variously described as grassy, herbaceous, tropical, even cat's pee.
Despite being on the same latitude as Marlborough, Tasmania's east coast produces softer, rounder flavours, often from much lower yields.
